Reggello and surroundings

The area around Reggello has, in exemplary measure, all the qualities that make Tuscany and the Florentine countryside so appealing: besides a gentle and picturesque landscape (a pleasure to look at and ideal for walking), the region also holds historical and artistic treasures of the very highest value.

It is precisely this combination that rewards a trip to Reggello in several ways at once: once the food lover has stocked up on precious olive oil, they can follow the trail of the art lover: Masaccio’s Trittico di San Giovenale in the beautiful Pieve di Cascia, the Angels by Antonio Rossellino in San Clemente, the Ghirlandaio in the equally remarkable Pieve di Pitiana. And, passing through Caselli, Sant’Agata, Fronzano and Arfoli (to name only a few of the places whose churches hold important paintings and frescoes from the fourteenth to the twentieth century), they arrive at Vallombrosa, where the steep, tree-lined climb leads to a great museum of sacred art and a church full of inlaid altars, within a monastery of great architectural and spiritual importance.

And still there remain the great villas and farms to explore (sometimes the difference between them is barely there, so harmonious, beautiful and at the same time practical are these buildings), along with the bridges, the mills and the oldest clusters of houses dating back to the Middle Ages…
